DGD 1.2.128 with network patch and intermud3
« on: June 03, 2007, 04:04:00 PM »
Hi everyone,

I have been lately taking a look at DGD but would like some of the capabilities in the network patch (which is slightly out of date with respect to the experimental patches) and was wondering if anyone had any experience getting the latest experimental patches to work with the network patch. I am also wondering if the specification document for intermud3 is still out there somewhere.

Thanks in advance,

Silenus

The original can be found at: http://www.intermud.org/i3/

If that is down then goto: http://mud.stack.nl/intermud/intermud3.html

Hi Tricky,

Thanks. Does anyone have experience with the other issue i.e. Getting DGD experimental with latest patches to work with the network patch?

Regards

Silenus.

If I understand you, what you want is DGD + i3.

This dude named Reflection got that to work, IIRC. The mud he used had
this for a public intermud info string:

Ever_AfterDGD   66.207.164.99 6565   DGD 1.1.42   EAlib pre-alpha 0.1

I have no further information, other than it seemed to work.
Reflection used to hang out on Trilogy. I suggest you ask
Hellmonger@Trilogy how to track him down, or get really clever with
Google, or both.

I suggest you not mention my name. Reflection's got...issues..with me.

Hi Crat.,

Thanks. I was aware that you could have the network patch work with the older version 1.1.experimental of the driver and thus perhaps I3 under the older version but thank you for looking it up. I just found the dgd mailing list so maybe I should inquire there since it still seems to be somewhat active.

Regards,

Silenus.

To my knowledge there is no networking patch available for the experimental branch of DGD at this time. I asked the DGD list myself about the networking patch last September, but without any positive response. But go ahead and send a mail to the list as well. Perhaps someone will get the old patch working if an interest is showing among the users.

Thanks Jimorie. I saw your old posts in the mailing list archive. I guess maybe I will try requesting a newer patch again though I wonder if it's possible to just take the patch file and manually hack it back into the 1.2.128 sources sort of like they suggest you do with the ANSI diff.

Yes perhaps. But you should know that while the ANSI patch is a 2 line hack, the network patch is a fair bit more complex. And I actually tried to do this myself, too. I applied the old network patch to the cutting edge sources at that time and started to straighten out what had changed. But if I recall correctly I stopped when I ran into some function that were called that had changed what parameters it required, and I realized I'd need a deeper C knowledge and DGD insight to finish the project.

I do however commend you to the task, if you feel its call. Don't forget to share your results.

 :)

http://mud.wotf.org/dgd-130-netpatch.tar.gz

It applies cleanly to 1.2.132 also, and includes the ansi patch and is currently used to run a development copy of my mud, which also hosts the archive.

It is not tested much, I'd appreciate feedback, aidil@WOTF on I3 or drop me a PM or respond here.
