I use TinyFugue 5.0 beta 8 myself. Takes a bit of setup, but it's solid after that.

Please note that if you met a Raudhrskal in a place that's not related to muds, it wasn't me. *sigh*... back when I started there was zero hits on google for that name...

I used my own effort until I didn't have the time nor energy to work out how to support xterm 256 colour mode in ncurses easily.

Been using tinyfugue ever since, since I live in a putty/screen world.

I'm using Powwow since a few years back. I think I've tried most clients out there at some point. Powwow is a bit of a unknown terminal client. Maybe not as scriptable as TF, but it does what I want and it is not being so much in the way as TF was. Sadly, however, it is no longer being actively maintained.
